Lesson 1 – A New Creature

 

Now that I’m a Christian, how do I behave and live?  What should change in my life?  Are there things that I should do differently?.

 

Memory Verse:  2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

 

In Christ, all things are new.

v      Romans 6:1-4 – We are raised to walk in newness of life.

v      Galatians 2:20 – My old self has been crucified, and it is Christ who lives in me.

 

Areas in which Christ transforms me.

1)      My thinking.

a)      Romans 12:1-2 – We are transformed by renewing what?

b)      Colossian 3:1-2 – If we are risen with Christ, where should we set our minds?

c)      How does our thinking dictate our behavior (Matt. 15:18)?

2)      My priorities

a)      Colossians 1:18 – Preeminence means to “hold the first place”.

b)      In what ways will my priorities be affected if Christ is first in my life (Matt. 6:33)?

3)      My speech

a)      Colossian 4:6 – How do we season our words?

b)      What words should we be saying (Eph. 4:29; 1 Pet. 3:15; Matt. 10:32-33)?

4)      My body

a)      Romans 6:13 – How should I present my body to God?

b)      1 Corinthians 6:13-20 – My body is a __________ of the Holy Spirit.

c)      2 Tim. 2:19-22 – Discuss how a man can make his body a vessel for dishonor.

5)      My relationships

a)      In each of the following verses, God is used as our standard for how we treat other people.  Write down the ways we must treat others “just as” God treats us.

i)        Matthew 20:28

ii)       Ephesians 4:32

iii)     Ephesians 5:24,25

b)      How will a family or friendship improve by exhibiting these character traits?

a)      Colossians 3:23-4:1 – Whom do you really serve at work?

b)      What do these passages say about your behavior and your attitude on the job site? (1 Timothy 6:1-2; Titus 2:9-10)?
